Flooring Transitions
Whether your building a new home or remodeling an existing home, smoothly transitioning from one floor to another can be challenging. If not done correctly, it can make a new area look awkward or dated. Typically you'd just add a threshold or just have a straight edge where the rooms divide, but there are some new innovative solutions out there that are not only clever, but also add a bit of an artistic flair to a once puzzling situation. Pinterest is full of ideas for every situation you might be up against.
Using wood, mosaics, and bricks in borders can unify two different colors and styles together.
This particular space separating the entryway into other living areas demonstrates two different techniques and they look great together! Contrasting a piece of hardwood in the opposite direction adds division seamlessly. The glass mosaic border does a impressive job of bringing the colors of the hardwood together with this bold large tile at the entrance.

Think outside the box and go with the curve cut. This is a great look for open floor homes as well as commercial spaces where you want all the different areas to come together without creating clear cut boundaries.

Metal trims and moldings get a fresh new look in this design. These come in several colors, brushed nickel, brass, rose gold, black, stainless steel....one could get very creative with so many different options. This is a very clean look and yet very classy.

This final transition is one that you'll see all over Pinterest, popular with hexagon and herringbone patterns. It is definately a very modern and contemporary look, it may not be the easiest floor to install but it's a show stopper and will get plenty of attention.
